“Quiet trails through black cherry and walnut forests. Witch hazel in fall and winter. Hickory and Chesnut trees in the spring.” – Raleigh, Lake Oswego, OR
Adam T. Bower Dam
The longest inflatable dam in the world, the Adam T. Bower Dam spans the Susquehanna River at Sunbury, Pennsylvania and is maintained by Shikellamy State Park. When the dam is inflated each summer, it creates a three-thousand-acre compound known as Lake Augusta that extends six and a half miles up the north and west branches of the Susquehanna and is a center of activity for boaters and water-skiers all summer long. Fishermen can always be seen at the base of the fabridam and bass fishing (when in season) in that area of the Susquehanna is especially good.
This unique dam is featured on our Top 20 River Spots brochure.
